The @icom.mpr conference is taking place at the Ge

The @icom.mpr conference is taking place at the Georgian Museum of Fine Art in Tbilisi. My presentation today touched on several exhibitions that I've seen at the @at_theagh over the years, thinking about ways that museums create meaningful connections with their audiences by relating aspects of an artist's work. I will look forward to taking what I have learned back to Canada, and to continue exploring the issues raised by the presenters today in my own practice.

Incidentally, the Museum of Fine Art is right across the street from Parliament where the demonstrations are taking place at night. We heard from a number of Georgian and Ukrainian museum professionals about the challenges and opportunities of operating in conditions of war and upheaval, including the Khanenko Museum in Kyiv and a project to preserve the cultural heritage of the occupied Didi Liakhvi Valley in Georgia.

At the opening reception for the @icom.mpr confere

At the opening reception for the @icom.mpr conference in Tbilisi Georgia today, we heard remarks from the General Director of the Tbilisi Museums Union: "Georgia fought for its independence in the 19th century, and we are doing the same today."

On my way back to the hotel there were thousands of people milling about on Rustaveli Ave. and a heavy police presence. The people here are unhappy with the recent sham election and their pro-Russian government. The protests reflect that many here would prefer to become part of the EU. From what I understand, this process was officially put on hold several weeks ago until at least 2028.

I had time to zip down by train to the Christmas Market at Marienplatz in Munich during my layover. I understand people have been meeting at this town square continuously since 1158. Munich is the centre of Bavaria and they take their beer and mulled wine traditions seriously. With thousands of people enjoying festive food, drink and shopping, and surrounded by beautiful landmark buildings, the atmosphere was incredible.

Richard Serra's 'Tilted Spheres' in the departure lounge of Terminal 1 at Pearson International Airport. These are made of solid steel about 2 inches thick and make a monumental impression visually and acoustically as well.
