A Painter

in Hamilton, Ontario

I am an artist dedicated to creating high quality works of art in Hamilton, Ontario.

Born and raised in Hamilton, I’ve attended local schools and worked for local businesses. I love this city and I am grateful for all of the warmth and support that has been shown to me in the process of building my career as a Canadian artist. I live and work on my art on a rural property just south of Ancaster, where me and my family raise chickens and grow fruit in our orchard. Over the years, I’ve been involved in revitalizing Hamilton’s art scene through my exhibitions, community involvement, writing and advocacy. Whether it was hosting monthly art parties during the early years of the art crawl, shaping institutions through charitable activities, supporting arts leadership practices, or teaching the arts to children, college students, and adults, I’ve learned and grown so much in the process of refining my art. As an emerging artist, I am excited about going public with my art through this website and my recently launched social media account. I invite you to take a few minutes to look around and to join my growing audience on Instagram. Thanks for your support of local art and artists in Hamilton, Ontario. #HamOntArt

A commissioned painting ought to balance the universal and individual aspects of the subject and serve several purposes. As an artifact, it is a historical record; as a likeness, it is a memorial; and as a painting, it belongs to the domain of art. Frequently Asked Questions

Over the years I have made drawings, linocut prints, collages, sculptures, photographs, and videos, but my primary medium is painting. Paintings have an unmatched presence and the material process of creation continues to fascinate me through its complexity.

In the course of my career I have copied or mimicked elements from the paintings of Giotto di Bondone, Vincent Van Gogh, Edouard Manet, Francis Bacon, Diego Velazquez, and Piet Mondrian. Copying the work of other masters is a time-tested method for learning how to make art.

I belonged to a collective about fifteen years ago that hosted monthly art parties to coincide with the James Street Art Crawl. These parties occurred for about five or six years between 2009 and 2014 and I have lots of great memories from that time. Another highlight was ‘Open Book,’ my solo exhibition in May 2023.

At the moment, my work is not on display, but all upcoming exhibitions will be announced in the ‘News‘ section of this website and via Instagram.
